About Me

Dr. Daniel A. Haughton was born in Jamaica and emigrated to Belize at the age of 7. He has always had a passion for learning and community engagement. Daniel graduated valedictorian of St. John’s College high school (2002) where he made the lifelong bonds with the founding board members of Belizean Hope. Daniel’s impressive academic and professional record continued as he earned an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of South Florida (2006), Masters degree (2009) and Doctor of Philosophy (2012) in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University (ASU).

His background earned him coveted career opportunities at Tampa Electric, the California Independent System Operator, and the Intel Corporation. He presently serves as a Manager of Distribution Engineering at the largest utility in Arizona, Arizona Public Service (APS). He is active in utility industry research organizations, and volunteerism in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). He has served as an adjunct professor at his graduate alma mater, ASU, since 2014.

Daniel is also a father and husband (spouse: Sasharie Haughton).

Why did I decide to join this cause?

As a firm believer in education as a pathway to prosperity, I advocate for philanthropic endeavors supporting educational achievements for deserving youth. It is this passion that drove me to partner with my lifelong friends to create this charitable organization, Belizean Hope, to grant scholarships to deserving students. I believe that with the right support, aspiring youth of Belize can gain the knowledge and skills to create a brighter future.
